What Is a Location QR Code?
A location QR code encodes GPS coordinates in the geo: URI format. When scanned, it opens the default maps app (Google Maps on Android, Apple Maps on iOS) with the location pinned. No address typing, no search ambiguity.
How the Geo URI Works
This tool generates the standard geo: URI:
geo:40.7128,-74.0060This format is recognized by both Google Maps and Apple Maps. The coordinates use decimal degrees (WGS84 datum), which is the same format used by Google Maps when you right-click a location.
Google Maps vs. Apple Maps: Both platforms handle the geo: URI. On Android, it opens Google Maps. On iOS, it opens Apple Maps by default (users can change this to Google Maps in Settings).
